The Tashkent Museum of Railway Equipment
Not far from the station of the Tashkent railway station “Tashkent Passenger”, popularly called “North Station”, the Tashkent Museum of Railway Equipment is located in the open air.
It is noteworthy that the museum was opened at the request of the population, and its history began with an exhibition of trains in 1989, which was held in honor of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Central Asian Railway. The exhibition of trains was held on the territory of the modern Museum of Railway Equipment. Upon its completion, due to the high interest and requests of the citizens, it was decided to organize a museum at the exhibition site, which was inaugurated on August 4, 1989, on the Railway Worker's Day.
To date, this museum is a member of the world Association of technical museums of railway profile.
The exposition of the exhibition is represented by 13 steam locomotives, 17 diesel locomotives, 3 electric locomotives and samples of repair and construction equipment of the last century.
In addition, the exhibition also presents 10 themed wagons, 3 of which carry exhibits telling the story of the creation of the Central Asian Railway. In these wagons you can see various means of communication and security, the uniform of railway workers of the last century and signs of valor. 2 more wagons are decorated in oriental style, and 2 summer wagons are also presented at the exhibition.
The museum has a narrow-line railway, the gauge of which is 750 mm.
One of the most famous compositions of the museum is the Oв, popularly called the “Sheep". It was this composition, according to unconfirmed reports, that appeared in the cult film “The Elusive Avengers". Also, the Oв is the oldest composition in the museum, dated 1914, it was also depicted on the stamp of Uzbekistan in 1999.
On the territory of the museum, which looks more like a park, diesel locomotives and steam locomotives of various series, commercial and captured steam locomotives, a shunting tank locomotive and other exhibits are presented. The park is rectangular in shape, about 1 km long, so excursions are conducted here on a small train. Visitors come here with their families on excursions, as well as for thematic photo shoots.
