The Seoul Park

In February 2010, the President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, paid an official visit to South Korea. During this visit, it was decided to erect the Seoul Park in Tashkent, the construction of which began in 2012, lasted about 2 years, and its opening took place on September 1, 2014. The symbolic red ribbon at the opening of the park was cut by the mayor of the city of Tashkent and a representative of the Seoul authorities.

The construction of the park was financed, among other things, by the South Korean side, and its main goal was and remains to promote South Korean culture, traditions and customs, as well as national peculiarities. The main task of the park is the bilateral development of diplomatic and cultural relations between Uzbekistan and South Korea.

The park is located in the Uchtepa district of the capital, on an area of 17.5 hectares. At the entrance to it, there is a large arch in the center, decorated with sakura patterns, and on the sides of the arch are closed gates, which are also decorated with drawings. To the left of the entrance there is a bas-relief with gratitude from the Koreans of Uzbekistan to the Uzbek people. The bas-relief depicting the Uzbek people welcoming Koreans with open arms is located on a special pedestal. The park is represented by a style typical of the South Korean interior and traditions. It is dominated by natural stone, architecture made of wood, artificial ponds with lilies and elegant bridges over them, national buildings with curved roofs made of tiles, flowerbeds with rare and characteristic flowers for the South Korean region. The walls of the buildings are painted with national drawings and hieroglyphs.

In 2017, Koreans celebrated 80 years of living in Uzbekistan. This landmark date was marked by the opening of the Bell of Peace Park, the opening ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Seoul. The bell is another symbol of friendship between the two peoples.

In 2021, a major reconstruction of the park was carried out, thanks to which the park updated its appearance. A new library, a summer cinema, two mini-football fields, jogging and walking paths, as well as bike paths, a lot of entertainment for adults and children appeared on its territory, and the entire area of the park was landscaped.

In addition to the fact that the park is full of vacationing citizens at any time of the year, the Independence Day of the National Cultural Centers of the Republican Intercenter is also held annually in Seoul Park.
