Siab bazaar

The coloring of any eastern city can always be felt most vividly at the local bazaar, that is, the market. So, in Tashkent, Chorsu Bazaar is famous all over the world, and the largest open–air architectural monument, the cultural capital of Uzbekistan - the city of Samarkand, is famous for its Siab bazaar.

Siab Bazaar, which takes its name from the Tajik “Siab”, which translates as “black water”, is the largest and oldest bazaar not only in Samarkand, but also in the whole of Uzbekistan. The bazaar is located in the district of the same name, not far from the bank of the Siab River. The area of the bazaar exceeds 7 hectares and it deservedly enjoys great popularity among tourists, since it is impossible to visit Samarkand and pass by the Siab bazaar.

The bazaar, located in the old city, in the center of Samarkand, at the intersection of Tashkent and Shahi-Zinda streets, is surrounded by tourist attractions such as Registan Square, Chorsu shopping dome, Bibi Khanum Mosque and Mausoleum, Shahi-Zinda Ensemble and Hazrat Khizr Mosque.

The entrance to the bazaar is decorated with a high triple arch, which is decorated with blue majolica. In the center of the bazaar there is a dome, under which there are covered shopping malls. On the territory of the bazaar, seven large covered pavilions, a supermarket “Siab” and a shopping center “Shodiena” stand out.

Since the market is covered, you can visit it in any weather and you can find absolutely everything here without any understatement.

In addition to the fact that the market is replete with vegetable and fruit products for every taste, you can find a whole pavilion here, in which only meat products are sold. There is also a wide range of sweets from classic chocolate to national sweets such as navvat and parvarda. At any time of the year, only here you can find a national treat, traditionally prepared on Navruz – Sumalyak. At the bazaar, skilled craftsmen and artisans who are engaged in forging, wood carving and engraving present their products.

It is impossible to imagine Siab bazaar without national Uzbek cuisine. The most delicious dishes will not leave even the most ardent gourmet indifferent.

National fabrics, men's and women's traditional clothes made of satin and adras of the highest quality are presented in a separate pavilion.

And finally, every visitor to the bazaar will definitely take with him traditional Samarkand tortillas, which are prepared here according to 17 different recipes, however, they are all united by the fact that they are kept fresh for a very long time and do not dry out.
