About the tour

Day 1: Arrival Arrival at the airport of Yerevan. Transfer to the hotel.

Day 2: Echmiadzin - Excursion in Yerevan Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for the tour to the so-called “Armenian Vatican” - to Holy Echmiadzin: the Spiritual Center of Armenia and the residence of the Catholicos of All Armenians - the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Here we will visit the Cathedral, built in the 4th century. Panoramic walking tour of Yerevan: Victory Park, Mother Armenia monument (from where a wonderful overview of the whole city opens up), Cascade architectural complex, Cafesjian Museum of Contemporary Art, Opera Theater. Tour to the Matenadaran: a museum-institute of ancient Armenian manuscripts, one of the largest repositories of manuscripts in the world. Evening walk through the center of Yerevan: walking tour along Northern Avenue to Republic Square. Visit the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Park and the Museum of the Armenian Genocide Victims of 1915. Day 3: Yerevan - Garni - Gegart - Sevanavank - Dilijan Breakfast at the hotel. A trip to the temple of Garni, a monument of the Hellenistic period and an impressive piece of ancient Armenian architecture. The temple was built in the first century AD by the Armenian king Tiridat and dedicated to a pagan god, probably Mitra, the sun god, whose figure was in the back of the sanctuary. You will also visit the monastery of Gegard, partly carved out of a mountain, surrounded by rocks. The name Gegard, which means “Monastery of the Spear”, comes from the spear that wounded Jesus on the Crucifixion, which was allegedly brought to Armenia by Apostle Faddeus. The monastery is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then you will have a trip to the city of Dilijan, “Little Switzerland of Armenia”. Arrival in Dilijan. Overnight at the hotel in Dilijan. Day 4: Haghpat - Sanahin - Akhtala - Sadakhlo Breakfast at the hotel. The first stop in Armenia is the Haghpat precious monastic complex. The path to the monastery lies along the Debed river. The largest church in the complex, the Cathedral of Surb Nshan. Haghpat Monastery, described as “a masterpiece of religious architecture and a major training center in the Middle Ages,” was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996. Further we will follow to another well-known complex in the same region. Akhtala - a monastery and a fortress on a small plateau in the gorge of the Debed river. The main church of the complex is famous for its highly artistic frescoes that cover the interior walls, partitions and pillars of the building. The murals were painted under the patronage of atabek Ivan Zakarian and date back to 1205-1216. Drive to the Georgian border Sadakhlo (Bagratashen). Return to Tbilisi. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5: Tour of Tbilisi (± 20km) Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning walk through the old town. Tbilisi is the most beautiful Kura River with its picturesque rocky banks flowing through the whole city. You walk along the old Tbilisi: Peace Bridge, River Park, you can climb the cable car to the Narikala fortress, and also walk in the Legvtahevi gorge to the natural waterfall. Day 6: Tbilisi - Mtskheta – Gori –Uplistsikhe – Tbilisi (± 240 km) Breakfast at the hotel. Mtskheta is a city-museum, in it all the streets are decorated in the same style - a combination of wood and natural stone. You walk through the city, visit the cathedral of Svetitskhoveli. Where one of the main Christian shrines is kept is the Heaton of the Lord. Visit the Jvari temple, built on the 7th century on a historic mountain overlooking the main Caucasian ridge, Jvari - one of the most important churches in Georgia. Then visit Uplistsikhe, an ancient cave city, one of the first cities on the territory of Georgia. Uplistsikhe carved into the rock on the left bank of the Kura River. The city emerged at the end of the 2nd at the beginning of the 1st millennium BC e., survived several ups and downs, was finally abandoned in the 19th century and is thus a multi-layered archaeological site, one of the most important monuments of Georgian culture. Return to Tbilisi. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 7: Tbilisi - Sighnaghi - Bodbe: a trip to the border of Azerbaijan - Sheki (± 280 km.) Breakfast at the hotel. Travel to the Azerbaijan border. On the way, we also visit the Bodbe Monastery, where there are remains and the tomb of St. Nina, the Georgian Enlightener, who died there in 347. A trip to the most romantic city of Sighnaghi awaits you. Signagi was called the city of love, the reason for this is the story of the famous artist Pirosmani.
