Mausoleum of Khoja Doniyor

This historical monument is considered a holy place. According to the 18th century, in this complex is the ashes of the prophet Daniyar (Daniel), his remains were brought to Samarkand by the great Amir Temur. As for the complex and the mausoleum, they were erected in the beginning of the 20th century, and over the years the building has undergone reconstruction.

The architectural monument is located near the other attractions of Samarkand, Afrasiab sites. The name Doniera is also found in the sacred writings of the Jews and Christians. At the very beginning of the 15th century (1400g.), The ashes of the prophet were brought to the capital of the great state Amir Temur and buried in the ground, and a mosque was built on this site. According to the information, his ashes were taken out of the city of Susa (Iran), it was during the next campaign of the great commander. As follows from the legend, on the approach to the ancient city of Samarkand, the horse that was carrying the ashes of the prophet stopped before reaching the city, for this reason, the great ruler decided that his remains would be buried in this place.

According to legend, after the mausoleum was erected, the inside of the grave began to increase in length and as a result lengthened by 18 meters. Time passed, the historical building was reconstructed at various periods, and only by the 20th century, a rectangular building was built above the burial site.
