In the ancient expanses of Karakalpakstan, about 20 km from the city of Nukus, is the ancient complex Mizdahkan. The complex was built over 2000 years ago. This is one of the most ancient buildings found in Uzbekistan. This place is filled with mysticism. Every year, pilgrims from all countries gather here. The complex combines several sites: the castle, the citadel and the necropolis. The most ancient settlement was founded in the 4th century BC. Because of the great fire, the city was completely destroyed, and only years later in its place began to build a new fortress.
The objects found by archaeologists indicate that the city continued to live from the 5th to the 8th century AD, at which time new buildings were erected. During the revival from the 9th to the 11th century, a citadel will be built. After the emergence of Islam in this area, customs were changed - people were buried in the ground, instead of doing the usual rites. The city was constantly developing. Some time later, new mosques and tombs were erected. At the beginning of the 8th century, the locals abandoned these lands because of the constant Mongol raids. Around the same time, bazaars and craft workshops will be built in the lower part of the city.
In the Middle Ages, Mizdahan was a center of handicraft production, which was located on the paths of Kunya-Urgench. In 1338, the great commander Tamerlane, during his campaign in Kunya-Urench, would destroy this wonderful city. The ancient complex keeps a lot of secrets and even mystical legends and beliefs. People who have been in these places talk about the "World Clock". No, this is not the clock that we used to see - this is a small madrasah, which served as the burial place of one of the saints. It is said that every year this building loses one brick from the masonry, and when the building collapses, the world will come to an end. Already wanted to count how many bricks left there?
But the legends do not end there. We all remember the tale of Aladdin and the magic lamp, so this place is famous for the magic stones. According to legend, if you put in a column of 7 stones and make a wish, it will come true. There are many desires and few stones, so you can use the bars of other people. This legend is associated with the mausoleum of Chamun-Nabi - a great hero and a very revered saint for the inhabitants of Central Asia. According to legend, in those days, Shamun-Nabi fought with a fire worshiper from the neighboring Guyar-Kala fortress. After his death, he was buried in a mausoleum with 7 domes, the bogatyr had so many daughters.
The complex keeps many legends and secrets, but at the same time it is a beautiful ancient structure, preserved to our time.
Have a nice holiday!
Sincerely yours, Damda.Uz team.
